“Law
cannot change the heart, but it can restrain the heartless, and that is no small
thing.”

“The
law has the power to do great good or great evil. Always know for which
agency you are employed
and if you find that it is for evil,
end
your representation. A lawyer without a conscience is the worst of all
beasts.”
–Jerome

About Laura
Kalur
Laura Kalur was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio and went to college in
Chicago, Illinois where she graduated from Shimer College with a Bachelors
of Science degree in 1997. She moved to Oregon in 1998 and received her law
degree from Willamette University, College of Law in 2001. Ms. Kalur is admitted
to practice in Oregon State Court and Federal Court. She is a member of the
Multnomah Bar Association, the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association, the OTLA
Professional negligence Group and the American Association for Justice (formerly
the Association of Trial Lawyers of America). She volunteers as a Trial Coach
for the Wilson High School Mock Trial Team, helping high school students
understand and experience the legal system and develop valuable public speaking
skills and experience.
Since 2002, Ms. Kalur's practice has included representing individuals
and families who have been injured by medical negligence, defective
products and medical devices. Ms. Kalur’s practice focuses
on complex medical cases. She has completed nursing course work and
was a surgical veterinary
assistant in college. Ms. Kalur has represented hundreds of injured
and disabled clients at Social Security Administrative Hearings,
Arbitration,
Settlement
Conferences and at Trial.
Her commitment to patients injured by medical negligence has its roots
in her father and mentor, Jerome S. Kalur, formerly of Jacobson, Maynard,
Tuschman & Kalur,
LLP, who represented both doctors and patients in medical malpractice
cases for over 35 years. She has assisted him in medical malpractice
cases and
continues to consult and associate with him on a case-by-case basis.
Medicine and a love of the law has been a strong influence in her
life and Ms. Kalur has dedicated her practice to the representation
of those injured
by medical negligence and defective medical devices.
“ An
advocate in the discharge of his duty knows but one person in all the
world, and that person
is his client. To
save that
client
by all means and expedients, and at all hazards and costs to other persons,
and amongst them, to himself, is his first and only duty; and in performing
this duty he must not regard the alarm, the torments, the destruction
which he may bring upon others.”
–Lord Brougham
